RESTORING LOST TIME
is a four-part free workshop series where participants explore ancestral narratives and reconstruct lost family archives using field recordings, collaged found recordings, fictionalized dialogues, and experimental sound techniques. Across the workshops, participants will engage in the creation of an alternative version of their family archives, drawing inspiration from the tradition of the Korean genealogy book.

People of color, especially those living in Diaspora, often have disembodied relationships to their own families and ancestral histories. Having lost time, space, heirlooms, language, and cultural knowledge due to global events like colonization as well as isolated instances of estrangement or immigration, these people living in exclusion from their origins often seek a sense of home, belonging, and kinship. RESTORING LOST TIME offers audio formats like radio, talk interviews, and abstract sound as sites where these feelings and the histories they stem from can be reanimated.

Ultimately, the workshops will help participants weave new narratives, reconnect with lost family history, and build personal archives that transcend time and space. Using the concepts explored through the series, they will also find new entry points to explore the intricate connections between our bodies, our ancestors, and lived experience.
